Geschichten von Flucht, Migration und Neuverortungen stellen dabei eine literarisch veräußerte Grundfläche dar, für alle jene Erfahrungen und Emotionen, die Geflüchtete und Emigrierte auf ihren tatsächlichen und persönlichen Schritten erleben. Eine, von unzähligen Autor_Innen, die selbst eine Emigrationserfahrung machte, ist Julya Rabinowich. Die russisch-österreichische Autorin ist im Alter von sieben Jahren mit ihrer Familie von Russland nach Wien emigriert. Ihr Erstlingswerk, der Roman Spaltkopf, thematisiert ebenfalls die Auswanderung eines jungen Mädchens namens Mischka und deren Familie. Neben Neuanfang und Neuverortung findet eine literarischpoetische Auseinandersetzung mit Themen wie interkulturelle Unterschieden, Identitätsverhandlungen, Religion, Geheimnissen und Familienkonstruktionen statt. Die vorliegende Arbeit wird den Versuch unternehmen die Gattungsbezeichnung der Migrationsliteratur zu untersuchen, ohne dabei den Anspruch auf eine tatsächliche Fixierung zu erheben. Diese Beobachtungen als Ausgangspunkt nutzend, wird sich gewidmet, die das Wort und das Symbol des Koffers in Julya Rabinowichs Roman Spaltkopf untersucht. Dabei wird zunächst dessen Bedeutung für die tatsächlichen Emigrationsreise untersucht, bevor eine detaillierte Auseinandersetzung folgt, die die Interdependenzen von Koffer und Familie und Koffer und Identität verdeutlichen sollen. Die Fokussierung auf die banal wie symbolisch be- und geladene Materialität des Koffers, dient der strukturellen wie thematischen Offenlegung des Erzähltextes
