Analysiert werden die Bücher "Irgendwie Anders" von Kathryn Cave und Chris Riddell, "Elmar" geschrieben und gezeichnet von David McKee und "Das kleine Ich bin Ich" von Mira Lobe und Susi Weigel. In der vergleichenden Betrachtung stellt sich die zentrale erkenntnisleitende Frage, inwiefern die ausgewählten Bilderbücher die Identitätsentwicklung von Kindern im Grundschulalter behandeln. Um ein tieferes Verständnis für das Konzept Identität und die Identitätsentwicklung zu erlangen, erfolgt zunächst eine Begriffsklärung sowie eine Auseinandersetzung mit verschiedenen Identitätskonzepten. Es handelt sich hierbei um eine grundlegende Darstellung der Arbeiten von Erik Homburger Erikson und George Herbert Mead. Darauf aufbauend schließt sich eine Zusammenführung dieser Erkenntnisse und eine genauere Betrachtung der Identitätsentwicklung im Grundschulalter an. Jeder Mensch ist einzigartig. Die Einzigartigkeit einer Person gipfelt in der eigenen Identität. Identität ist das, womit wir uns bewusst oder unbewusst von anderen unterscheiden. Diese Thematik erstreckt sich vom Säuglingsalter über die Kindheit und Jugend bis hin zum Erwachsenenalter. In der Entwicklung des Kindes zählt die Identitätsentwicklung zu den entscheidenden Aufgaben. Wenn es hierbei zu Irritationen kommt, kann dies später zu Fehlentwicklungen führen und das Individuum vor Probleme stellen. Um diesen schwierigen Prozess der Identitätsentwicklung zu bewältigen, benötigt das Kind somit auch immer eine gewisse Hilfe von außen. An dieser Stelle ist das Bilderbuch zu erwähnen, welches ein geeignetes Medium hierzu darstellen kann. Häufig ist dieses das erste literarästhetische Werk, mit dem Kleinkinder oftmals berei
