About the Book

Winner of a 2016 Illumination Book Award
Jessica Roemischer's inspirational memoir begins, "It took me forty-five years to realize that I'd been raised by a saint. But as I look back, I can see that there were signs along the way." The reader is introduced to Flora who, against all odds, finds her way from an Ecuadorian village to the tree-lined suburbs of New York. There, she enters the young life of the author and the tragedy that's unfolding. In Duet with God is the tale of Flora's love, and the awakening of the heart this remarkable person inspired.

In Duet with God is a spiritual memoir that appeals to readers of all backgrounds. The relationship between the author and her beloved friend, Flora, is universal. In Duet with God speaks to the essence of what makes us human, and thus, what makes us one.

With its simple, descriptive phrases and striking authenticity, In Duet with God is a tale of redemption and remembrance. The author's words evoke the reader's own story, triggering memories of the blessings one has known, but perhaps forgotten.

Praise for In Duet with God...
"In Duet with God: The Story of a Lifelong Friendship is a book you can never 'finish, ' for Jessica's wisdom, faith, and love become part of your own life, and the door she opens for each reader is a gift you will cherish always." --Frances Hesselbein, president and CEO, The Frances Hesselbein Leadership Institute, recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, author of My Life in Leadership

"In Duet with God reveals that in our humanity we are homo sanctus-sacred beings." --Yasuhiko Kimura, philosopher and founder, Vision-in-Action (from the Foreword)

"It's a true blessing to read In Duet with God, a luminously loving account of the author's 'guardian angel' and the journey of the heart she inspired." --Cynthia Bourgeault, founding director of The Contemplative Society and author of Love is Stronger Than Death

"In Duet with God really doesn't fit any of the usual genres, even spiritual autobiography. I would call it religious art-and it reads like a children's book-very simple sentences and dialogue throughout. In its profound simplicity, it's like the classic children's story The Little Prince." --Jim Marion, founder and director, Institute for Spiritual Awareness, and author of Putting on the Mind of Christ: The Inner Work of Christian Spirituality

"My heart ached as I read of the pain in the lives of Jessica Roemischer and Flora, the subject of the author's beautiful book. I was astonished that both could allow such deep pain to shape them into the beautiful women they grew to be. One feels that the relationship between the author and 'her saint' is a sacred bond-an eternal love. Amazing grace!" --Sister M. Theresa Bowman, Congregation of Divine Providence

"In Duet with God comes with a surprise: this heartfelt memoir works to inspire you toreflect on your own life and its stories, waiting to be remembered and revealed!" -Debbe Kennedy, author of Putting Our Differences to Work, Axiom Business Book Award winner, and founder and CEO of Leadership Solutions Companies and the Global Dialogue Center

"I gobbled up In Duet with God in one sitting. What a lovely tribute to a lovely woman! Jessica's faith and devotion shine through on every page. I'm so happy that she has shared this story with the world!" Katherine Collins, author of The Nature of Investing, and founder of Honeybee Capital
