About the Book

"There's nothing your biggest client can't do for you or to you." Michael Sweig's memoir, "In Felony's Mirror," with essays on legal ethics and restorative justice, illustrates the immutable psychological and collateral consequences of felony convictions. Sweig argues that we are all better than our worst acts, and redemption and reformation of character are not reserved only for people who never get caught breaking the law. Legal professionals, policy makers, corrections professionals, and teachers or students of law, criminal justice, business, and public policy should read "In Felony's Mirror: Reflections on Pain and Promise."
About the Author: Michael Sweig became a justice reform advocate, author, and speaker after 25 years in Chicago as a lawyer and legal studies professor. During 1997-1998, Michael voluntarily gave up his law license and turned himself into the Cook County, Illinois State's Attorney, because he had embezzled client funds in a million dollar fee dispute. Michael's experience in the criminal justice system has informed his path ever since. He is Founder of the Citizens' Institute for Law & Public Policy, established in 2010, as The Institute for People with Criminal Records. www.CitizensInstitute.info The focus of Citizens' Institute is BLUEPRINT FOR A PERFECT REENTRY, (TM) comprised principally of four initiatives: (a) policy research to support administrative pardons in Illinois and elsewhere; (b) a Family Support Navigator(TM) system for reentry and family programing for governors, mayors and county executives; (c) advocacy for the rights of the learning disabled in the criminal justice system; and (d) 20MillionVote.org(TM), a movement to register citizens with criminal records and their families to vote, and enlist and train lobbyists with criminal backgrounds in all the fifty states. Michael is the proud father of three talented children: writer Zoe Keziah Mendelson, artist Marlee Jae Mendelson, and guitar powerhouse Judah Amichai Sweig. When home, Michael lives in Mexico, on Lake Chapala, with his beloved Wynne Bailey Sweig and their Pit Bulls, Nóble and Cora Luna.
