Sie inkludierten nicht nur das verfügbare wissenschaftliche Wissen, sondern klassifizierten und bearbeiteten auch alle Aspekte, welche wir heute unter dem Oberbegriff der Mikrosoziologie zusammenfassen. Ausgehend von dieser Betrachtung erscheint die Frage angemessen, in welchem Verhältnis die Profession zur Organisation steht und welchen Einfluss sie auf gesellschaftliche Strukturbildung ausüben. Sichtet man die wissenschaftliche Literatur zu dieser Thematik fällt auf, dass sich bezüglich der o.g. Fragestellung bereits ein ausführlicher Diskurs entwickelt hat. Zudem lässt sich festhalten, dass sich die Aussagen und empirischen Befunde einzelner Soziolog_innen in Abhängigkeit von betrachteter Profession, gewähltem theoretischem Ansatz sowie der untersuchten Nation unterscheiden. Das Ziel dieser Arbeit soll es daher sein, das Verhältnis zwischen Organisation und Profession näher zu beleuchten und zu klären, ob es sich um konkurrierende, oder ergänzende Konstrukte handelt. Um diese Frage beantworten zu können, werden vorab beide Elemente in Bezug auf die Fragestellung vorgestellt und erläutert. Der inhaltliche Schwerpunkt liegt dabei auf dem Professionsbegriff. Dem liegt zum einen eine umfangreichere Begriffsbestimmung zugrunde, aber auch die Tatsache, dass die Profession innerhalb der Soziologie einem breiten und ausdifferenzierten Diskurs unterliegt. Die Bemühungen sollen dahingehend fokussiert werden, die unterschiedlichen Standpunkte ausgewählter Soziolog_innen, auch vor dem Hintergrund der jeweiligen Einbettung
