About the Book

Exceptional needs children are integrated in regular learning environments with no specific method of academic implementation from regular and special educators. The purpose of this exploratory qualitative study was to identify best practices of inclusion from the perspective of regular and special educators in the south central United States. Interview and questionnaire responses provided the needed qualitative data to describe the best practices of inclusion and perceptions of this practice from those who experience it in the workplace. Results may have significant implications for teachers in inclusive classrooms and leadership charged with educator training.
About the Author: I am the fifth child of six children. I was born and raised in Tennessee. I have an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Computer Operations. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Special Education K-12. I became a Phoenix when I obtained my Masters of Arts in Education with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction and a Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Educational Technology. I enjoy working and thinking outside the box. At times I have had to create the box in which to think outside of. My background and experiences has allowed me to incorporate technology into the classroom with ease. I am currently an assistant professor of special education at LeMoyne-Owen College where I instruct Electronic Portfolio Development and History and Legislation in Special Education, Children/Youth with Mild Disabilities, Survey of Exceptional Children, Sign Language, and Curriculum Development & Implementation of Exceptional Learners courses. I have wanted to teach since graduating high school. I enjoy seeing the expression on a person's face that has grasped the message I am delivering. Doing my best and doing it right is what my parents taught me. As a result, I passed this on to my two sons. That is what I want my students to obtain as well. I pleasure in sharing my gifts with others, teaching, instructing them in my area of knowledge, and training. Tailoring, upholstery, singing, computer skills, personal and professional development, community projects, and money management a few skills I have instructed and shared with students of all ages at various times. I enjoy learning new things. I am a certified tutor through Failure Free Reading, a master teacher through Stanford University - EGPY Math and Language Arts, a certified instructor/coordinator of Work-Based Learning, and I am CPR and Heart Saver First Aid Certified. Developing minds is a never ending process. Educational consultation drives me. The journey of life may be tough but worth every step. Learning never stops.
