About the Book

Change, continuous change and radical change is a regular phenomena. It is prevalent in every field of activities, be it in the social, economic, cultural and political field of activities. The abrupt change in industrial activities in India has started after the implementation of the new economic policy in July 1991 that has brought a significant departure from controlled, regulated and protected (CRP) economy to the liberalized, privatized and global (LPG) economy. In order to face challenges and obtain competitive advantage organizations need to have a reservoir of dynamic, committed, loyal and contented workforce. And this can be possible in a healthy industrial relations work settings where much emphasis is laid on promoting better human relations between boss and subordinates, expeditious disposal of employees' grievances/disputes individually by boss or collectively under collective bargaining approach between employer's representatives/associations and employees' representatives/trade unions, generating a climate of discipline in the organization. The organizations frame rules, regulations and procedures to carry on their tasks in an orderly and systematic way. It is expected that all people at work should follow such rules. But, it occurs that some follow spontaneously and some do not follow ; they violate and resort to indisciplined activities. In such situation management takes constructive, preventive and motivating measures to correct their behaviour, improve their conduct so that they do not repeat in future; but when they do not improve their conduct and again resort to acts of misconduct the disciplinary action is taken against them. This book is designed to introduce the people involved in organizational activities to the conceptual perspectives of industrial relations, its practices, the roles of trade unions, employers' association, use of various disputes settlement machinery including collective bargaining to settle problems/issues of the people at work through joint participation, interaction and discussion. This book lays special emphasis on various aspects of discipline management to provide guidelines, practical suggestions to deal with disciplinary cases arising out of employment/non-employment situations in the organizations. This book can be of great use for the students of MBA, M.Com, MHRM, MBA(HR), BBA and also the students prosecuting studies in technical and professional education programme. It can be used effectively as the main text book since it covers the topics prescribed for the above course
