Mit der Basis der Grundbegriffe werden die Optionen des Influencer Marketings beschrieben und vom klassischen Marketing unterschieden. Der letzte Punkt befasst sich mit einer Praxisreflektion für Influencer Marketing und zeigt, welche Auswirkung es hat, wenn sich ein Unternehmen für Influencer Marketing entschieden hat. Wir leben in einem digitalen Zeitalter, von Blogs, Foren, Bewertungsplattformen und verschiedenen sozialen Netzwerken. Dadurch ist die klassische Online-Werbung allein nicht mehr ausreichend, um an Reichweite zu gelangen. Das liegt zum einen daran, dass Verbraucher klassischer Werbung weniger vertrauen und weniger darauf achten, weshalb blinkende Banner, Anzeigen am Rand einer Website oder Pop-ups, die erscheinen, sobald eine Website geöffnet wird, oft als störend empfunden werden. Der Verbraucher ignoriert sie oder installiert sogar eine Werbeblocker-Software. Zum anderen basieren die Kaufabsichten der Verbraucher mittlerweile vor allem auf Empfehlungen von Freunden und Bekannten, aber auch auf Empfehlungen von anderen Internetnutzern, wie beispielsweise Experten, Bloggern, Forenbetreibern oder Influencer, mit denen sich Verbraucher identifizieren können.
