Wie gut informieren sich die Kaufer uber das Angebot, bevor sie die endgultige Kaufentscheidung treffen? Wurden ihre Bedurfnisse besser befriedigt, wenn sie sich mehr Marktubersicht verschafften ? BeeinfluGt ein Mehr an Informationen die Beweglichkeit der Nachfrage und damit den Wettbewerb? Der Zusammenhang zwischen Information und Wettbewerb gehort zu den zentralen Problem en der Wirtschaftstheorie. Das hindert nicht, daB die Erforschung dieses Zusammen- hanges noch an ihren Anfiingen steht. Genauere Aussagen iiber das Problem werden erst nach ausgedehnten empirischen Untersuchungen moglich sein. In dieser Studie werden Ansatzpunkte fUr solehe LTntersuchungen vorgelegt. Das erste Kapitel schildert die theoretische Bedeutung des Problems und definiert die Grundbegriffe, im zweiten werden Hypothesen iiber Motive und Hindernisse, AusmaG und Wirkungen der Marktubersicht entwickelt. Keine dieser Hypothesen kann bereits als gesichert gelten; das empirische Material, das sich zu ihrer Be- griindung heranziehen laGt, ist noch allzu dunn gesat. 1m dritten Kapitel werden daher Verfahren skizziert, mit denen der Geltungsanspruch der entwickelten Hypothesen an der Wirklichkeit iiberpriift werden kann. Alles das gehort noch in das erste Stadium eines empirischen Forschungsvor- habens: das Stadium, in dem die spater zu priifenden Hypothesen formuliert und begriindet, operationale BegritFe entwickelt und Forschungsansatze entworfen werden. In einem zweiten Stadium werden diese Ansatze ausgefiihrt, werden experimentelle . oder einfache Erhebungen angestellt; im dritten werden deren Ergebnisse analysiert und mit den Ausgangshypothesen verglichen, urn diese zu bestatigen oder zu widerlegen.
