About the Book

Min yngsta dotter springer längs raderna, genar över gravarna, vill vara den som hittar honom. Det är underligt att se och ta in. Hon kände inte sin farfar, ingen av dem gjorde det. Det är ingen stor begravningsplats och efter en knapp timme kan vi konstatera att han inte finns där, vilket känns märkvärdigt logiskt. Inte ska jag stå vid din grav, stirrande i marken. Inte ska jag veta var du finns, och inte ska jag kunna bli där. Du ska inte vänta och du ska inget förklara. Din tystnad ska aldrig bli min tystnad och det du kanske säger ska aldrig vara tillräckligt. Jag ska aldrig veta vad jag sysslar med när jag söker dig och plötsligt ska jag återigen inse att jag gått åt fel håll och inte vet var jag är. Allt annat är faktiskt helt otänkbart. Jag försökte i många år att skriva om min far och den relation vi aldrig fick till. Om det där misslyckandet jag aldrig begripit - visst var kanske klyftan mellan sextitalisterna och deras föräldrar både djupare och vidare än mellan några andra generationer i historien, men var vi verkligen dömda att stå där och vifta stumt och okoordinerat på var sin sida i all evighet? Fanns det ingen väg runt? Hur jag skrev fick jag inte ordning på det. Detta är mitt sista försök. Ett par läsarreaktioner: - Det tar lite ansträngning att komma in, men sen absorberas jag helt. Det är så djupt personligt. Och där i det mest frenetiska pusslandet, i vridandet och vändandet för att hitta sammanhang och mening, finns ett myller av tankar och bilder som slår mig från mitt eget liv, frågor där jag inser att jag stundom gått vilse, stundom letat i fel ände. Jag tycker boken är så vackert mänsklig och brottade, utan att bli bitter. - Förfärligt att se hur du blandar sanning och lögn och kanske önsketänkande till en soppa som tydligen ger dig nån slags tillfredsställelse.
