Der Trend zur Internationalisierung von Geschäftstätigkeiten in der Unternehmenswelt nimmt seit Beginn des letzten Jahrzehnts stark zu. Die Begriffe Internationalisierung und Globalisierung werden häufig synonym für die Intensivierung des internationalen Wettbewerbs verwendet. Die dynamischen Änderungen der politischen-ökonomischen-technischen Rahmenbedingungen lassen die Bedeutung nationaler Grenzen geringer werden. Dabei ist im Rahmen der Globalisierung eine wachsende Anzahl von Auslandsentsendungen sowie internationalen Kooperationen und Projekten zu verzeichnen. Gerade der asiatische Markt gewinnt zunehmend an Bedeutung und wird nicht mehr nur als die "verlängerte Werkbank" Europas betrachtet, sondern vielmehr als strategischer Partner für Forschung und Entwicklung. Mit einer Wachstumsrate von 7,3 % im Jahr 2007 gehören die Philippinen zu den sich wirtschaftlich am stärksten entwickelnden Ländern in Südostasien. Deutschland ist, neben den USA und China, einer der wichtigsten Handelspartner des Archipels. Mit grenzüberschreitenden Tätigkeiten sind gleichzeitig auch neue Anforderungen an das Personalmanagement entstanden. Die veränderten Umweltbedingungen der Werte-, Organisations-, Markt-, Technologie- und Globalisierungsdynamik erfordern besondere Kenntnisse in der Personalarbeit. Das Know How der Mitarbeiter bildet die Schlüsselvoraussetzung für den Erfolg, die Umweltherausforderungen zu meistern. Der Bedarf an Expertise ist nicht mehr nur auf einzelne Manager eingrenzbar, sondern es werden zunehmend mehr Beschäftigte in entsprechende Aufgaben eingebunden.
