About the Book

Call him Ishmael ... that's what his mother did. But after giving her baby life and a name, she gave nothing more. She could not even feed him. As Ishmael's mother drifted away into a dark world of heroin addiction, the new life she had just created was cast off into his own dark abyss - isolation, hunger and total alienation from society.

It would take a miracle for Ishmael to survive even through his first year ... but real miracles are the stuff of myth ... or are they? Maybe ... just maybe ... if not bona fide miracles, there are more subtle, mysterious energies ... forces not generally acknowledged, or understood. But they exist. Yes, Ishmael's situation is desperate, but is it possible he's getting help from sources deeper, more ancient and more profound that we can imagine?

One thing is certain, Ishmael will need all the help he can get. Surviving infancy and childhood is only the beginning of his journey. Navigating the vagaries and cruelties of a troubled world is a challenge for everyone, but for a child abandoned, stripped of love and the basic social skills ... well, the path of life becomes nothing less than an epic journey where monsters, danger - and the occasional kind heart - are found in the most unexpected places.
