About the Book

Daniel Quinn just might be the epitome of Gen-X angst. The musician, slacker, movie geek, food lover and amateur American behavior analyst, was once a chef, until he assaulted a customer with a cucumber for disrespecting his cooking by simply saying that Daniel's food was just as good as the food at The Outback Steakhouse. These days, Daniel works as a server in an upscale downtown Tucson restaurant, a job more suited toward his personality because he isn't putting his cooking-and therefore himself-on trial every night. Daniel is content to work, play music, drink beer, watch movies with his cat, Scuz, make observations about life, and otherwise spend his time chillin' out with family and friends, until the death of his grandfather, a Tucson City Councilman and Deputy Mayor of Tucson, threatens to send Daniel's easy-going existence spiraling out of control. Lester Romley is a petty scam artist who sees Daniel's band play one night and becomes obsessed with the idea that Daniel has a map leading to treasure buried in the Arizona desert, treasure that will be the answer to Lester's never-ending quest for riches. John Cutlass is a billionaire land developer willing to commit murder for the opportunity to build tract homes on the sight of a wildlife refuge for endangered birds and owls. The paths of all three men will collide and the Island of the Lost Souls, a mythical island in the Sea of Cortez, might be the end of the line for all of them. Throw in a cast of typically colorful Tucsonans and an elderly Jewish hitman and you have a story that's a pop culture rollercoaster that will make you laugh, possibly upset you, and just might have you feeling hungry at the end.
About the Author: Zack has career ADHD. He has been a restaurateur (along with holding every possible position inside a restaurant), a professional videographer, a music writer, a radio station general manager, a DJ, a wine salesman, a record store clerk, a brewery worker and a door-to-door dictionary salesman. He grew up in Tucson, has lived in various locations in the Western US, and at this time calls Park City, Utah, home. "Island of the Lost Souls" is his first novel.
