Diese Geschöpfe reichen von freundlichen Naturgeistern bis zu bösartigen Dämonen und stellen eine Verbindung zwischen der sichtbaren und unsichtbaren Welt dar. Bekannte Yokai sind beispielsweise der kitsune (Fuchsgeist) und der tanuki (Waschbärhund), die oft in Geschichten und Legenden auftreten.


Japanische Mythologie hat nicht nur die Kultur, Kunst und Literatur Japans beeinflusst, sondern auch Einflüsse aus anderen Religionen und Kulturen aufgenommen und transformiert.
