About the Book

English summary: Written at the age of forty-seven, Thoughts on the value of feelings in Christianity was J.J. Spalding's first academical work. Taking up and leaving well behind the concept of religious feelings as developed in the north-German Pietism, he undertook yet another basic investigation into the dignity of religious feelings. Thus Spalding developed his own concept, faithfully founded in scripture as well as in the topical concept of truth, by suggesting theological criteria. With these he dominated the discourse on feelings in his time.
