Der geburtige Bamberger Johann Lukas Schonlein zahlt zu den einflussreichsten deutschen Medizinern der ersten Halfte des 19. Jahrhunderts. Schonlein hat sich vor allem als Kliniker einen Namen gemacht und die Einfuhrung moderner naturwissenschaftlicher Methoden in die Medizin befordert. Nicht zuletzt gilt Schonlein zusammen mit Robert Remak (1815-1865) als Erstbeschreiber eines humanpathogenen Krankheitserregers. Nachdem bereits im Jahr 2014 anlasslich der Wiederkehr seines 150. Todestages die bis dahin unveroffentlichten Briefe von Schonlein ediert wurden, folgt nun die Herausgabe von insgesamt 202 bislang unbekannten Briefen an Schonlein, die grosstenteils aus Privatarchiven stammen. Unter den Schreibern befinden sich etwa Personlichkeiten wie Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859), der franzosische Kaiser Napoleon III. (1808-1873) oder der preussische Konig Friedrich Wilhelm IV. (1795-1861), dessen Leibarzt Schonlein uber einen Zeitraum von fast 20 Jahren war. Diese kritisch edierten Briefe erweitern unser Bild von Schonlein als Arzt, Hochschullehrer, Wissenschaftsforderer und Privatperson und dienen als Grundlage fur die weitere Forschung.
About the Author: Philipp Teichfischer ist seit 2009 wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Bereich fur Geschichte, Ethik und Theorie der Medizin an der Medizinischen Fakultat der Otto-von-Guericke-Universitat Magdeburg. Studium der Philosophie, Germanistik und Geschichte. Promotion 2008. Arbeit am germanistischen Institut der Universitat Warschau (2008-2009). Forschungsschwerpunkte: Geschichte der Medizin des 19. Jahrhunderts; Geschichte der Pharmakologie und Toxikologie; Geschichte, Ethik und Theorie der Komplementarmedizin. Eva Brinkschulte ist seit 2003 Leiterin des Bereichs Geschichte, Ethik und Theorie der Medizin der Medizinischen Fakultat der Otto-von-Guericke-Universitat Magdeburg. Studium der Geschichtswissenschaften und Soziologie FU Berlin. Promotion 1996. Habilitation 2002. Forschungsschwerpunkte: Historische Frauen- und Geschlechtergeschichte in der Medizin, Patienten- und Krankenhausgeschichte im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert, Geschichte der Sportmedizin und Orthopadie, Medizin und Offentlichkeit, mediale Kultur der Medizin.
