About the Book

Joe was like many others in this world of hard working "Joe's" as he lived his life day to day with his only responsibilities of getting to work on time, paying rent, and buying food to sustain himself. What else mattered? That was until one night he awoke from a deep sleep with the haunting question from a deep soft voice asking him, "What have you done with the gift I gave you?" The voice was so clear he thought there was someone else in his dark one room apartment located in the city of Detroit. After all this would not be unusual for any family living in the ghetto surrounded by drug users and pimps selling their wares and trying to take from others. His day to day life changes dramatically as he opens his mind and his attitude towards helping others as he makes a conscience effort to better himself and start his mission of finding out just what this gift of his is and how he was supposed to use this gift to help the lives of others. Joe becomes a big fan of Joseph, the father of Jesus, who takes on the responsibilities of the most important person to grace the earth. Joe admires this man of few words who raised the Son of God while giving him life direction, love, and the stability of a family. Joe sees the father of Jesus as a role model that many fathers of Detroit and other cities could use as a guideline to raising a child. With a focus of bettering himself by going to college, receiving life directions from a guardian angel, the exuberance of saving the life of a friend, teaching neighborhood children to learn about baseball, and happening upon a church service that helps him make a connection to what becomes a true friend and mentor in Father David. But, God still has some challenges for young Joe who draws the revenge of the group that tried to kill the friend Joe saved just a few weeks prior. How does Joe find the answer to the question, "What have you done with the gift I gave you?"
