Ohne Medien wäre das wohl kaum zu schaffen, so genügt schon ein Blick in die Tageszeitung um zu wissen, was in der Welt geschieht. Wer kein Geld für die gedruckte Version der News ausgeben möchte, ist im Internet inzwischen auch gut beraten: viele Zeitungsartikel sind hier auch online abrufbar. Um sich einen groben Überblick über das Geschehen in der Welt zu verschaffen, genügt es schon, sich die täglichen Fernsehnachrichten anzuschauen. Insgesamt sind die neuen Medien keine "Monster", die unsere Jugend verderben. Handys beispielsweise sind nicht nur unnützlich, schließlich können wir so mit unserem Kind in Kontakt bleiben. Natürlich behindern diese modernen Erfindungen den Alltag vieler Lehrer: So dient das Handy im Unterricht nicht selten dem SMS schreiben mit der Freundin in der ersten Bankreihe. Zu meiner Zeit schrieben wir uns "Zettelchen", kleine Botschaften, die im Unterricht unauffällig hin- und hergereicht wurden. Ziel war dabei damals ebenso wie heute, mit der Freundin, von der man angesichts zu vieler Gespräche und Albernheiten weggesetzt wurde, über andere zu lästern oder die Jungs in der Klasse zu bewerten- teenagertypische Dinge eben. Auch das "Computerspielen sollte nur eine spaßvolle Ergänzung der bisherigen Freizeitbeschäftigung sein und nicht die Freizeit dominieren" (Lerchenmüller- Hilse/ Hilse 1998, S.84).
