WHAT IS A SPIDER
There are over 300 different types of spiders in the world, and they come in many shapes and sizes. Spiders are considered invertebrates, which means they have no backbone and are made up of different sections of the body that are attached together with threadlike lines. They are one of the most successful groups of animals on the planet, with over 1000 species found worldwide.
Spiders are mostly active at night, but some species are known to be active during the day. They use their eight legs to move around and capture their prey. They are able to spit a web out of their mouth to trap their prey and then inject venom to paralyze the prey. Most spiders are small, but some, like the black widow, can be as large as a dinner plate.
What is a spider's life like?
Spiders are territorial and live in webs that they build in strategic locations. They can live up to six years, but most only live for a few months. They lay their eggs in a sac and then wait for them to hatch. The baby spiders eat their mother's food and then build their own web.
There are over 30,000 known species of spiders. Spider species can be found all over the world, from the tropics to the poles. One of the most common types of spiders is the house spider, which is found in homes and offices all over the world.
