Like any small town, Pinto has its share of characters.
The Reverend Hobgood leads the flock at the local Baptist church, while Clayton, the village idiot, and Kyra Lynn, the town bad girl, keep tongues wagging.
Down at the Single Star, Pinto's watering hole, Quinton Xavier Coleman uses a pool cue to deal with a troublemaker taunting him about his failing relationship with his socialite wife back in Dallas.
And across town, mysterious newcomer Kelli Hawthorne visits WT's, the local café owned by Willard Thoroughgood. Kelli guards the secrets of her past carefully-and masks her true feelings for the still-married Quinton.
In the background, national news events parade across the television and the front page of the local newspaper, inviting discussion, speculation, and many strong opinions among the good citizens of Pinto, Texas.
About the Author: J. Calvin earned his bachelor of science and master of education at West Texas A&M University before completing postgraduate certifications in education administration and vocational counseling at Texas Tech University and East Texas A&M University.
Calvin worked in Texas and Oklahoma for over thirty years as a classroom teacher and vocational counselor. He currently lives in southern Oklahoma as a "transplanted" Texan with his wife of forty-five years. Together, they have three grown sons, nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Calvin was presented a lifetime membership in the Future Farmers of America in 1971, and the Independent Order of Foresters awarded him with the Grand Cross, their highest honor. Only fifty members hold this prestigious award for meritorious community volunteer service at any one time.
