Bachelorarbeit aus dem Jahr 2011 im Fachbereich Geschichte - Asien, Note: 1,3, Technische Universität Darmstadt (Gesellschafts- und Geschichtswissenschaften), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Diese Arbeit untersucht die Versuche des afghanischen Königs Amanullah Schah in den 1920er Jahren, sein Land in die Moderne zu führen. Die Reduktion Afghanistans auf eine Art "wilder Westen" Zentralasiens, das Klischee vom Kriegervolk und das mechanistische Verständnis von Modernisierung, das nicht zuletzt auch dem Ansatz des "Nation Building" des Westens seit 2001 zugrunde liegt, werden um eine historische Perspektive erweitert und somit kritisch hinterfragt. Es wird nicht nur aufgezeigt, warum dieser Modernisierungsversuch scheiterte, sondern auch, was eine afghanische Moderne ausmacht. Vor dem Hintergrund des langen Engagements der internationalen Staatengemeinschaft in Afghanistan sind Kenntnisse der neueren afghanischen Geschichte von besonderer Bedeutung - diese Arbeit versucht über die Auseinandersetzung mit der Vergangenheit einen Beitrag zum Verständnis der Gegenwart dieses schönen und komplexen Landes zu leisten. Diese Arbeit will daher den Charakter der Modernisierung König Amanullahs zu bestimmen versuchen. Sie wendet sich diesen Fragen zu: Was bedeutet "Moderne" in Afghanistan in den 1920er Jahren und wie modern waren demnach Amanullahs Reformen? Finden sich in den Reformen Amanullahs Elemente, die bei der Standortbestimmung einer eigenen "afghanischen Moderne" hilfreich sein können? Der Nutzen dieser Untersuchung liegt auf der Hand: wenn es gelingt, in Amanullahs Herrschaft unverzichtbare Merkmale einer afghanischen Moderne zu identifizieren, ergibt dies zweierlei. Erstens wäre dem Modernecharakter von Amanullahs Herrschaft ein klareres Profil verliehen und zweitens wäre deutlich geworden, welche Prozesse integrale Bestandteile einer jeden Modernisierung Afghanistans sein müssen.
