The Katie and Mr. Moon series features a spunky, inspirational heroine and her best friend, a Welsh Mountain pony. As Katie and Mr. Moon go on a variety of exciting adventures, readers learn lessons about horses, animal care, friendship, responsibility, safety, and courage - all set in the Australian bush.
Katie, age six, lives in the Australian bush near Melbourne. She is nicknamed Frog Legs because of the way her legs look when she wears jodhpurs. Together with Mr. Moon, she loves exploring the countryside around her family's farm.
In Today's Big Adventure, Katie and Mr. Moon set off on an excursion to Dead Man's Road, which is rumored to be haunted.
As she rides along the road, Katie is frightened by the eerie scenery and strange objects she encounters. But Katie is brave, and her pony is intrepid. As readers follow her and her pony deeper into the bush, they will learn ways to combat fear and calm their anxieties.
Today's Big Adventure is intended to boost young children's confidence in their reading skills with simple chapters, easy-to-understand language, and charming black-and-white illustrations. It's perfect for newly independent readers ages six to eight as well as older children who enjoy realistic stories about horses.
