About the Book

"A Kid from Momence - Growing Up after the War" is an overview of the long-lasting effects of World War II on the Baby Boomer Generation, generations since, and on countries across the globe.

Based on the life experiences of a small-town Midwestern kid who grows up to become a business leader, "A Kid from Momence... Growing Up After the War" navigates the evolution of American industry, global business, politics, music, media, and education since the end of the war.

The book also serves as a primer for any young manager seeking to find a pathway to executive management. It is a remarkable story of how a music teacher leaves his career in his late thirties and scratches his way to the position of a CEO in the business world.

The scope of the work includes small town Americana, big city machine politics, global business, faith, family, the power of music and how American society has changed since the demise of industrial America and the rise of the technological age.

McNulty's extensive review of the global economy and how it shapes American life today is perfect for the layman interested in how business works around the world and here at home. The author's experience in China over the last ten years provides a unique explanation for China's rise, its current challenges and its impact on American choices.

America's challenge to capitalize on the highly connected virtual world, while, at the same time, insulate the country from radical terrorist invasion in our open society, defines what the author submits, is the challenge for the current generation about to lead in the 21st Century.

A reflection for all War Babies, it is an artful, detailed and often humorous explanation of the post-war years. The book puts today's unpredictable world in a manageable context for The Greatest Generation, The Baby Boomers, and Millennials on the brink of taking the baton.
About the Author: Kevin McNulty, Sr. grew up in Momence, Illinois, located in Kankakee County, Illinois. He is a local historian, author, musician, teacher, composer, amateur photographer, and business executive.

McNulty has had an unusual career in both education for twenty years, and in business for the last twenty-nine years. His work with the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and CEO of the Chicago Southland Chamber of Commerce placed him in the middle of Chicago and Cook County, Illinois politics, including contacts with President Barack Obama before he became president. McNulty's book, "A Kid from Momence...Growing Up After The War," makes a comparison of his War Baby Generation to that of their parent's Greatest Generation and details the tsunami-like effect of World War II from its beginnings to the present day. The book also includes what is believed to be the first overview of the unique Southern Suburbs of Chicago reflecting the demise of the steel industry and growth of new political class in the wake of the Chicago machine.

Since 2006, McNulty has done business extensively in China helping American companies sell to the Chinese and invest in China domestic projects. His insights into China's rise, their current challenges and how global trade works is a primer for anyone interested in a clear explanation of the global economy.

McNulty continues to teach music and is the Orchestra Director at Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School in Bradley, Illinois. He is an author of other books including an 800-page historical novel about the famous American pilot "Lt. Pat O'Brien." McNulty is the author of "Around Momence" (2007), and his photo books including "Barns of Kankakee County" (2013), published by his publishing company KMC Publishing Company in Matteson, Illinois.
