Ein Hauptziel bei der Entwicklung von modernen Fahrzeugmotoren ist die Reduzierung des Kraftstoffverbrauchs. Zur Erreichung dieser Zielsetzung existieren bei Ottomotoren verschiedene technische Lösungsansätze. Einer dieser Lösungsansätze ist die drosselfreie Laststeuerung über einen vollvariablen Ventiltrieb. Der Lehrstuhl für Verbrennungskraftmaschinen der Universität Kaiserslautern entwickelt den mechanisch vollvariablen Ventiltrieb UniValve. Ventiltriebe von Ottomotoren sind im Sinne der Getriebelehre ebene Kurvengetriebe. Kurvengetriebe haben die Eigenschaft, dass eine vorgegebene Bewegung des Abtriebsglieds durch Auslegung der Kontur des Kurvenglieds vorherbestimmt werden kann. In herkömmlichen Ventiltrieben z.B. Tassenstößel-, Schlepphebel- oder Kipphebeltrieben mit konstantem max. Ventilhub ist der Nocken das Kurvenglied, dessen Kontur die Bewegung des Ventils - des Abtriebsglieds - bestimmt. Dabei wird das Bewegungsgesetz, das die Relativlage des Ventils zum Nocken beschreibt, als Ventilhubverlauf bezeichnet. Durch die Wahl bzw. Konstruktion eines geeigneten Ventilhubverlaufs können die dynamischen Eigenschaften des Ventiltriebs und der motorische Prozess gezielt beeinflusst werden. Deshalb existieren für herkömmliche Ventiltriebe Software-Pakete, z.B. Camshaft Design System ? kurz CDS - mit denen der Ventilhubverlauf modelliert werden kann und die dann aus dem Ventilhubverlauf und der Geometrie des Ventiltriebs invers kinematisch die Nockenkontur berechnen, die die vorgegebene Ventilbewegung erzeugt. In einem vollvariablen UniValve-Ventiltrieb arbeiten zwei Kurvengliedern - der Nocken und ein sogenannter Stellhebel. Für die Berechnung der Nockenkurve und der Arbeitskurve des Stellhebels müssen zwei Übertragungsfunktionen vorgegeben werden - der Ventilhubverlauf bei Vollhub und eine zweite Übertragungsfunktion, die die Bewegung des Stellhebels bestimmt und hier als Schwenkgesetz bezeichnet wird.
