Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2021 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Neuere Deutsche Literatur, Note: 2,0, Universität Mannheim, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Im Rahmen dieser Seminararbeit soll die Bedeutung und Funktion der Kleidung der Titelheldin Sophie von Sternheim als Zeichensystem für den Handlungskontext des Briefromans dargestellt werden. Im Zuge dessen wird diskutiert, in welchen räumlichen Kontexten die Kleidung als Spiegel der Seele der Titelheldin funktioniert und somit auf Charakterzüge ihrer selbst schließen lässt und warum die Kleidung am Hofe eher als Verkleidung der Seele verstanden werden kann. Die Analyse der Figur der Protagonistin und dessen Kleidung wird durch exemplarische Darstellung von drei Szenen des Briefromans, in denen diese Thematik besonders aufgegriffen wird, gestützt. Die drei Textstellen repräsentieren Sophies Zeit am Hof, welche von "den Kleidern [ihrer] Mama", über die "Spiel im Spiel" Begegnung mit dem Fürsten bei einem Opernbesuch bis hin zum Maskenball, bei dem sie im Kleid einer Mätresse auftritt, reicht. Der Gegenstand der vorliegenden Seminararbeit liegt in der beschreibenden Kleidung der Sternheim, insbesondere derer, welche sie im Rahmen der Maskenballszene trägt. Ihre vestimentäre Kleidung, die Frisur, Accessoires und Bewegungen der Titelheldin Sophie stehen dabei im Vordergrund und verdeutlichen die Funktion der Kleidung als Verkleidung ihrer seelischen Empfindungen und Tugenden. Dabei verdeutlicht das Farbspiel ihres Kleides aus Cramoisi und schwarzem Traft ihre Verführbarkeit, während ihre offenen Locken eine sexualisierende Wirkung auf die Ballgesellschaft haben. Neben dem Kleid und der Frisur soll auch die Maske, die als Verhüllung ihrer die Empfindungen fungiert, den Fürsten von ihrer Rolle als geeignete Mätresse zu überzeugen.
