En 1989 Marco Baliani y Remo Rostagno llevaron por primera vez a los escenarios su personal adaptacion del clasico de Heinrich von Kleist, Michael Kohlhaas, convirtiendo la ambigua historia del orgulloso criador de caballos capaz de alzarse frente al poder en busca de justicia en una conmovedora obra teatral para actor solista. El espectaculo, segun el mismo Baliani «un modo de hablar de aquellos conflictos con que se topo mi generacion, la del '68, cuando en nombre de un ideal supremo de justicia social se llego a llenar de sangre las plazas y calles», obtuvo de inmediato un clamoroso exito de publico y critica que no ha dejado de crecer desde entonces. Hoy, pasados treinta anos de aquel estreno y despues de mas de un millar de representaciones, la adaptacion de Baliani y Rostagno no es solo una de las piezas clave del panorama teatral italiano de las ultimas decadas, sino uno de los ejemplos mas sobresalientes de las infinitas posibilidades expresivas que es capaz de encerrar un texto teatral. Obra seminal del llamado «teatro di narrazione», el estreno de Kohlhaas a manos de Marco Baliani en 1989 supuso un revulsivo en el panorama teatral italiano de finales de los ochenta. Partiendo del inmortal texto de Heinrich von Kleist, Baliani no solo reactivo una nueva forma de comunicacion con el publico, sino que dio el primer paso para una reconsideracion completa de lo que es el teatro mismo. Hace anos conte Kohlhaas por primera vez. Sentado en una silla durante hora y media experimente con un teatro de pura narracion. Desde entonces lo han llamado asi, teatro de narracion, todos los que antes y despues han seguido mi ejemplo y han intentado, cada uno de forma diversa y a partir de distintos contenidos, reducir su propio espacio escenico a un cuerpo narrante. He dicho «pura» narracion, aunque son justamente las impurezas las que vuelven viva una narracion. Mas de la mitad del «texto» de Kohlhaas esta compuesto por lo que hace mi cuerpo, por los pies que golpean el suelo, por las manos, por las miradas, por lo biologico de mi propio ser. Es imposible, por tanto, transferirlo a la pagina escrita. He intentado el texto como sucesion de palabras y didascalias, ha sido publicado, pero falta el cuerpo. Lo que se ha destilado en la pagina es la sustancia fria de lo que sucede en la escena. Marco Baliani El breve texto expone de forma directa una de las caracteristicas fundamentales del movimiento: el hecho de que nos encontramos ante un tipo de manifestacion teatral pensada para un unico actor solista en la que el desarrollo del espectaculo recae de forma exclusiva en la exploracion de todos los mecanismos que ofrece la «fisicidad del cuerpo narrante» del actor. El actor, solo en mitad de un escenario vacio y erradicado como esta en el «aqui» y «ahora» de la representacion, debe enfrentarse en el teatro de narracion al desafio de tener como unico instrumento los mecanismos vocales y gestuales de que dispone prescindiendo para ello de todo tipo de atrezo o de recurso escenografico. Pasados treinta anos de aquel estreno y despues de mas de un millar de representaciones, la adaptacion de Baliani y Rostagno no es solo una de las piezas clave del panorama teatral italiano de las ultimas decadas, sino uno de los ejemplos mas sobresalientes de las infinitas posibilidades expresivas que es capaz de encerrar un texto teatral. El actor, dramaturgo y director italiano Marco Baliani (Verbania, 1950) se inicia en el campo de la animacion teatral con la fundacion en 1975 de la compania Ruotalibera, actividad que compaginara desde finales de los ochenta con la investigacion en torno al trabajo actoral en espectaculos teatrales monologados. En esta particular modalidad escenica, poco despues denominada «teatro de narracion», veran la luz dos de sus obras mas aclamadas, el presente Kohlhaas (1989) y Corpo di stato (1998), sobre el secuestro y asesinato de Aldo Moro. De su extensa y variada produccion cabe mencionar, entre otros titulos, Peer Gynt (1994), La Crociata dei Bambini (1999), Pinocchio Nero (2005) o las mas recientes Trincea (2015) y Una notte sbagliata (2019), asi como los ensayos Pensieri di un raccontatore di storie (1991) y Ho cavalcato in groppa ad una sedia (2010).
