Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2017 im Fachbereich Romanistik - Französisch - Landeskunde / Kultur, Note: 1,3, Georg-August-Universität Göttingen (Seminar für Romanische Philologie), Veranstaltung: Études postcoloniales francophones, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Wesseling bemerkt zu Recht, dass das koloniale System heutzutage zwar nicht mehr existiere, seine Konsequenzen jedoch bis in die Gegenwart reichen, was territoriale Konflikte in Afrika und im Nahen Osten zeigen. Um die Ursachen dieser Konflikte zu ergründen, ist es lohnenswert, sich mit einem der wirkungsmächtigsten Befürworter des französischen Imperialismus, Jules Ferry, auseinanderzusetzen, dem oft genug die Etablierung des laizistischen, kostenlosen und verpflichtenden Schulsystems in Frankreich hoch angerechnet, sein imperialistisches Wirken dabei jedoch etwas außer Acht gelassen wird. Angesichts der Tatsache, dass Frankreich in Afrika eine der größten Kolonialmächte war und seinen Einfluss auch in Asien geltend machte, erscheint eine Beschäftigung mit Ferrys Gedanken und Wirken in der kolonialen Expansion umso drängender. Diese gibt er in einer Rede am 28. Juli 1885 in der Abgeordnetenkammer preis, auf die Reaktionen nicht lange auf sich warten lassen. Bereits zwei Tage später reagiert der Abgeordnete der extremen Linken Georges Clemenceau, der als erbitterter Gegner Ferrys gilt. In diesem Zusammenhang lautet die Frage, der in der vorliegenden Arbeit nachgegangen wird: Wie reagiert Clemenceau auf Ferrys Ideen zur kolonialen Expansion? Dabei sollen zwei Hypothesen verifiziert bzw. falsifiziert werden, von denen die erste lautet: Die Ansichten Clemenceaus unterscheiden sich von Ferrys grundsätzlich. Die zweite lautet: Clemenceau lehnt koloniale Expansion kategorisch ab. Um eine Grundlage für den Imperialismus in der Dritten Republik (1871-1940) zu legen, werden die Begriffe des Kolonialismus, Imperialismus, der Kolonie und der Kolonisation definiert.
