Die Autorin fragte Frauen nach ihren Kindheitserinnerungen, ihren Erfahrungen in der Familie, im Beruf, mit den Männern. Und hielt erstaunlich offene Auskünfte fest, auch über die Ideale und Träume der Befragten. Die Interviews mit Frauen in Nicaragua vermitteln gleichzeitig einen vielseitigen Einblick in die gesellschaftliche Realität des kleinen mittelamerikanischen Landes, das 1979 mit einer großen Revolution weltweit von sich reden machte. Was ist daraus geworden? Nach Meinung einer der interviewten Frauen "gibt es sehr viele Dinge, die ein Vermächtnis der Revolution darstellen. Weil unzählige Menschen sich mit der Revolution entwickelten und sie durch ihre heutige Arbeit weiterführen. Die Werte der Revolution sind Teil ihres Alltags, ohne dass sie das so nennen." Das Buch stellt sechs solcher Frauen vor: Carmen - eine Heilpraktikerin, Elisabeth - unsere Bibliothekarin, Lillian - eine Sozialarbeiterin, María Elena - eine Rechtsanwältin, María Teresa - eine Ingenieurin und Nineth - eine Künstlerin. Neben den Texten enthält "Kometensplitter", das auch als E-Book erhältlich ist, zahlreiche schwarz-weiß Fotos und farbige Collagen mit Aufnahmen von nicaraguanischen Frauen.
About the Author: Katja Ullmann, geboren 1968 in Dresden, studierte in Leipzig Journalistik, Germanistik und Russistik. Seitdem arbeitete sie vor allem als Lehrerin für Deutsch als Fremdsprache, u.a. fünf Jahre in Managua, Nicaragua. Da sie außerdem das Stipendienprogramm eines nicaraguanischen Frauenprojekts leitete, war sie viel in diesem mittelamerikanischen Land unterwegs. Zurückgekehrt in ihre Heimatstadt ist sie heute am Lehrzentrum Sprachen und Kulturen der TU Dresden tätig. Nach der Veröffentlichung von "Das A und O - Deutsche Redewendungen" (gemeinsam mit Carlos Ampié Loría, Klett, 2009) wendet sich Katja Ullmann mit "Kometensplitter" wieder dem journalistischen Schaffen in Wort und Bild zu.
