About the Book

Noch im Jahre 1969 war das Internet ein gerade ins Leben gerufenes Projekt des US-amerikanischen Verteidigungsministeriums, mit dem vermeintlichen Zweck, Forschungseinrichtungen zu vernetzen. Mittlerweile ist das, Interconnected Network' (so die ursprüngliche Bezeichnung) aus dem Alltag der meisten Menschen in modernen Gesellschaften gar nicht mehr wegzudenken. Nachdem Microsoft-Gründer Bill Gates im Jahr 1995 noch über die Technologie urteilte, "das Internet ist nur ein Hype", und seine Mitarbeiter dazu anhielt, sich erst einmal um wichtigere Dinge zu kümmern, ist es in der heutigen Zeit das, Medium' erster Ordnung. Es nimmt eine zentrale und umfangreiche Stellung in unserem alltäglichen Leben ein und erfasst gleichermaßen berufliche wie auch private Sphären. Es berührt nahezu alle gesellschaftlichen Schichten und Felder und ist der Inbegriff der, digitalen Revolution', die unsere Epoche spätestens seit dem Siegeszug des Internets Mitte der 1990er Jahre und der darauf folgenden, New Economy Blase' maßgeblich geprägt hat. Web 2.0 bedeutet in diesem Kontext eine seit einigen Jahren neuartige Möglichkeit der interaktiven Präsenz der Internetnutzer. Mit dem Begriff werden die neuen Angebote des Internets und eine veränderte Wahrnehmung sowie Nutzung derselben durch die nicht mehr nur passiven Konsumenten, sondern nunmehr vielfach auch aktiven, Prosumenten' beschrieben. Der Fokus dieser Studie liegt auf den damit einhergehenden kommunikativen und inszenierenden Dimensionen, welche im vorliegenden Buch genauer beleuchtet werden sollen.
