About the Book

Die Entscheidung, den Begriff des Lebenslangen Lernens in den Titel einer w- senschaftlichen Buchreihe aufzunehmen, ist riskant. Freilich trägt das Spiel mit dem alliterierenden Schlagwort zur Wiedererkennung und Identifikation bei. Aber das Schlagwort ist auch Reizwort. Lebenslanges Lernen ist zuallererst eine bildungspolitische Formel. Sie transportiert die Erwartung, individuelles Lernen über die Lebensspanne auszudehnen, vermeidet aber die Zuordnung einer insti- tionellen Verantwortung, weist vielmehr auf die Bedeutung informellen Lernens hin. Als bildungspolitisches Leitbild ist das Lebenslange Lernen Gegenstand normativer Auseinandersetzungen. Die Hoffnung, über lebenslanges Lernen die gesellschaftliche Entwicklungsdynamik mit individueller Beteiligung verein- ren zu können, steht der Befürchtung gegenüber, die Lasten gesellschaftlicher Entwicklungstrends würden den zur Anpassung gezwungenen Individuen auf- tragen. Die Herausgeber dieser Reihe positionieren sich in dieser Debatte nicht. Ihnen geht es um ein tertium comparationis, wie der vollständige Titel der Reihe „Theorie und Empirie Lebenslangen Lernens“ zum Ausdruck bringt. Unbestr- ten stehen individuelles Lernen und soziale Veränderung in einem unauflösbaren Verhältnis. Die Erziehungswissenschaften im Allgemeinen und die Weiterb- dungswissenschaften haben die Aufgabe, dieses Verhältnis theoretisch auf den Begriff zu bringen und empirisch zu analysieren. Die Eigendynamiken von L- nen und Sozialität – für die der Diskurs um das Lebenslange Lernen ein Beispiel bietet – bringen fortwährend Forschungsdesiderate hervor. In diesem Sinne wird das mit dem Begriff des Lebenslangen Lernens verbundene Risiko in den Ver- fentlichungen dieser Reihe produktiv in die Formulierung wissenschaftlicherFragen gewendet.
