Gleichzeitig wird untersucht, wie schlüssig diese Begründungen ausfallen und ob sie ggf. durch fundierte Gegenargumente entkräftet werden können. Grundlegend dazu werden Thesen aufgestellt, die das Potential von Komposition thematisieren und Grundlage für die Forderung bilden, dass Komposition im Musikunterricht vermehrt genutzt werden sollte: These 1: Das Komponieren im Musikunterricht bietet sich als vielseitige Methode an, Musiktheorie und -praxis verstehend zu verbinden. These 2: Durch Komposition kann zeitgleich die Entwicklung mehrerer Zielkompetenzen erreicht bzw. gefördert werden. These 3: Schüler erhalten durch das eigenständige Komponieren ein vertiefendes Verständnis vieler vom Kerncurriculum geforderten Themen wie Instrumentenkunde, Formen- und Harmonielehre, Notation und eigenverantwortliches Anleiten. Studien bestätigen, dass produktive Umgangsweisen im Musikunterricht einen geringen Stellenwert aufweisen. Dieser sei sogar so gering, dass er als Rückseite jener Medaille bezeichnet werden könne, "auf deren allermeist thematisierter Vorderseite der rezeptive und reproduktive Zugang und Umgang mit Musik geprägt ist." Es stellt sich die Frage, ob die Nutzung produktiver Umgangsweisen bzw. von Produktionsprozessen wie Komposition nicht stattfindet, weil es sich nicht für den Musikunterricht anbietet oder ob es tatsächlich andere Gründe hat, dass Komposition als "blinder Fleck" der schulischen Musikbegegnung gesehen wird. Dass Musikunterricht vielerorts ohne produktive Umgangsweisen durchgeführt wird, verwundert deswegen nicht nur, sondern muss kritisiert werden, denn es stehen musikpädagogische Konzeptionen elementaren Komponierens
