Länder - Mittelalter, Frühe Neuzeit, Note: 2,0, Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen (Germanistik), Veranstaltung: Liebes- und Freundschaftstheorien des Mittelalters und der Frühen Neuzeit, Hauptseminar, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Begriffe "Liebe" und "Ehe" scheinen zunächst unvereinbar nebeneinander zu stehen, wenn man sie in Bezug auf das Mittelalter im deutschsprachigen Kulturraum betrachtet. Den Eindruck, den man in Bezug auf die Ehe der mittelalterlichen Gesellschaft gewinnen mag, beruht auf dem Wissen über die Vereinbarung von Eheverbindungen zwischen zwei Familien, in denen die individuellen Wünsche und Bedürfnisse der Ehepartner keine oder nur eine untergeordnete Rolle spielten. Dazu passt das Verständnis einer auf Freiwilligkeit beruhenden Liebesheirat nicht, wie es in westlich geprägten Ländern der heutigen Zeit vorherrscht. Romantische und erotische Gefühle für den zukünftigen Lebenspartner können bei einer vereinbarten Ehe, der vor allem familiäre, finanzielle und politische Interessen zu Grunde lagen, wohl nur bedingt vorgekommen sein. Das Wissen über außereheliche Vergnügungen des Ehemannes im Bereich der Sexualität und der Beleg des Konkubinats verstärken den Eindruck, dass die Ehe im Mittelalter eine reine Zweckgemeinschaft war, die vor allem der Sicherung der Nachkommenschaft diente. Die Lieder des Minnesangs, in denen von der Liebe eines Ritters zu einer höfischen Dame erzählt wird, nehmen dagegen Bezug auf leidenschaftliche Liebe, die von der Hoffnung auf Erfüllung im Sinne von Vereinigung des Paares lebt. Dabei richtet sich das Bestreben des Werbenden jedoch häufig an eine gesellschaftlich höher stehende oder eine verheiratete Frau, so dass die Erfüllung der Liebe bloßer Wunsch bleibt. Liebe und Ehe scheinen auch hier einander auszuschließen. Die folgende Arbeit soll zunächst einen Einblick geben in die Themenfelder "Liebe" und "Ehe" in Bezug auf das Mittelalter. Die schrift
