Das die Menge an Zeit, die für den Fernsehkonsum aufgewendet wird auch das Interesse der Wissenschaft weckt, ist nicht verwunderlich. Doch dabei konzentriert man sich nicht nur auf rein quantitative Aspekte wie, wie lange und oft wird ferngesehen oder welche Personengruppen welche Programme schauen sondern auch detailliertere Sachverhalte, wie die Nutzungsmotive der Zuschauer. Ich möchte mich daher in meiner Arbeit dem Gegenstand der Konvergenz widmen. Dieses Thema bietet verschiedenste Herangehensweisen, sowohl qualitativer als auch quantitativer Natur. Ich werde auf den nächsten Seiten versuchen, den Begriff der Konvergenz erst in grundlegendem Maße und dann auf der Ebene des Fernsehens zu erläutern und darauf folgend eine Einführung in die Konvergenzhypothese, welche von Schatz/ Immer und Marcinkowski aufgestellt wurde, geben. Es wird überprüft, aus welcher Perspektive Konvergenz überhaupt möglich ist und welche dieser Sichtweisen die ausschlaggebendste ist. Die bereits erwähnte Hypothese zur Konvergenz im Fernsehen soll mir als Ausgangspunkt dienen und ich werde untersuchen, in welchen Gebieten es empirisch belegbar zu Konvergenz gekommen ist. Beginnen möchte ich mit der Definition von Konvergenz, was Konvergenz im Zusammenhang mit Fernsehen bedeutet und eine kurze historische Entwicklung der Forschung zu diesem Thema aufzeigen. Danach will ich mich der Konvergenz aus drei Blickwinkeln nähern, dabei handelt es sich einmal um die Konvergenz der Programmstruktur, darauf folgend die Sicht der Zuschauer und zuletzt auf Basis von Rezeptionsurteilen.
