Magisterarbeit aus dem Jahr 2008 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Neuere Deutsche Literatur, Note: 1,3, Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel (Institut für Neuere Deutsche Literatur und Medien), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Walter Benjamin schreibt in seiner Rezension zu "Berlin Alexanderplatz" mit Blick auf Döblins poetologischen Essay "Der Bau des epischen Werks", dass es ihm in seinem Roman gelinge, seine theoretischen Positionen auch literarisch umzusetzen: "Sein letztes Buch zeigt, daß Theorie und Praxis seines Schaffens sich decken." Ebenso unterstreicht Döblin selbst, seine theoretischen Konzepte des modernen Epos in der Praxis verwirklicht zu haben: "Ich spreche hier von einem sich entwickelnden Typ moderner epischer Kunstwerke, die ganz bestimmte Formgesetze in sich tragen. Ich habe leicht analysierbare Beispiele in meinen eigenen Büchern gegeben." Doch worin besteht dieser neue Typ der Epik? Was sind seine Merkmale? Auf welchen theoretischen Überlegungen beruht er und woraus speisen sich deren Einflüsse? Wie die beiden Zitate andeuten, unterfüttert Döblin sein dichterisches Werk stets mit literatur- und kunsttheoretischen Schriften, die ein hohes Maß an Selbstreflexion aufweisen und das ästhetische Fundament seines Schaffens bilden. Eine Analyse von "Berlin Alexanderplatz" gebietet also zunächst einen genauen Blick auf ebendiese Texte. Dementsprechend zeichnet der erste Teil dieser Arbeit den Entstehungsweg von Döblins romanpoetologischen Überlegungen nach, während der zweite zeigt, wie diese in Berlin Alexanderplatz kulminieren. "Von einer 'Poetik' Döblins zu sprechen, ist eine fragwürdige Sache, " schreibt Erich Kleinschmidt über dessen ästhetische Schriften, da sie keine konsistente Theorie erkennen ließen.
