About the Book

"Aaauuukk!" Eleven-year-old Johann jumps out of bed, his morning wake-up shower can wait. The bloodcurdling scream of a pterodactyl wakes him. This time it is a louder, more frantic noise than its normal, gravelly voice. Something is wrong and he's going to find out what. Thus begins Bonnie Solino's new mystery/adventure novel for 9-12 year olds, Kortdagbyen Island And The Secret Caves. Set on a hidden island, north of Norway, this once Viking vacation spot...Kortdagbyen Island is being plundered and changed forever by outside treasure hunters. Beginning with the discovery of this most important island in the world to the amazing people who protect it, the island's history is intertwined within Johann's story. Johann and his friends: Anna, Christian, and Mikky travel through a rainforest, searching for the sick pterodactyl's nesting ground. While using their unique skills to boldly solve this mystery filled with poisoned pterodactyls, secret hidden caves, a kidnapped friend, the murder of a father, and the discovery of a priceless treasure, each brings a special talent to the job. With Anna's cool, analytical mind and Christian as environmentalist and part-time rune interrupter, these friends are always eager to follow Johann on his latest adventure. Add the youngest member of these explorers, Christian's ten-year-old brother Mikky, who doesn't let his Down Syndrome get in the way of him helping his friends crack these mysteries. Mikky shows the world that people with intellectual challenges are independent, capable, and fun. Now, you have the makings of a real adventure. Why were the pterodactyls poisoned, who killed the father, is there really a priceless treasure, and will the child be returned to the family? Read Kortdagbyen Island And The Secret Caves by Bonnie Solino and discover the answers to these and other mysteries.
About the Author: Bonnie Solino based her latest novel, "Kortdagbyen Island and the Secret Caves" on her experiences and knowledge of Norway and its wonderful people who gave her the color and characters of her book. While living in Western Pennsylvania, she and her family hosted a fun loving, energetic Norwegian exchange student for one amazing year. While sharing her American lifestyle with her new daughter, Bonnie discovered a different culture, too. She became fascinated with Norway and its traditions. Years later, she traveled to Norway to visit her new daughter and her family. There she experienced warm, welcoming people and their beautiful country, first hand. Born in Rockland County, New York, the young Bonnie enjoyed writing and directing plays in her parent's backyard. After college, she served as a VISTA volunteer in the Ozarks. Then, returning home with a VISTA fiancé, she married, and moved to Brooklyn, NY. She continued to write, but as life happened, she grew into many roles. As Jill-of-All-Trades, she was a travel agent in NYC, packed peas in a mill in Missouri, worked for a computer company, counted money in the vault rooms of two major department stores, and was a substitute teacher in New Jersey. When living in western Pennsylvania, she taught herself to install plumbing for the geodesic dome she and her husband designed and built. Once settled she became the active president of the PTO at her son's school. The Red Cross took her to Louisiana to give disaster relief after Katrina. After Pennsylvania, Bonnie moved around the United States with her family for her husband's job. In Florida, she began creating an online show for children, for which she had written many short stories. When one of those shorts took on a life of its own, "Kortdagbyen Island and the Secret Caves" was a born. Bonnie has since put away her copy of "How to do Basic Plumbing" and now calls in a professional. Instead, she enjoys her characters and their many adventures.
