Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2015 im Fachbereich Geschichte - Weltgeschichte - Frühgeschichte, Antike, Note: 1,0, Universität Passau, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Bedeutung und die Tragweite des zweiten punischen Krieges zwischen Rom und Karthago sind nicht von der Hand zu weisen. Das Ende des Krieges, Roms Sieg, bedeutete das Ende des Dualismus im Mittelmeerraum und den Aufstieg Roms zur Hegemonialmacht. Karthago, nach nun zwei teuren, aufreibenden und nicht zuletzt verlorenen Kriegen, stellte für Rom keine Konkurrenz mehr dar, wodurch Rom seine eigene Machtposition nicht nur festigen, sondern auch ausbauen konnte. Obwohl die Quellenlage sehr dürftig und alles andere, als unumstritten betrachtet werden muss, sind sich die Geschichtsschreiber in der Bedeutung des Konflikts doch einig. Polybios, der allgemein als verlässlichste Quelle gilt, da er leidlich kurz nach den Ereignissen lebte, bezeichnet die Auswirkungen des Krieges und den damit verbundenen Aufstieg Roms als von so großer Wichtigkeit, "wie sie kein früherer Zeitraum von gleicher Dauer in sich umfaßt (sic!)" . Als weitere wichtige Quellen zählen Appianus und Livius. Letzterer erklärt, der zweite punische Krieg sei der "denkwürdigste aller Kriege [...] die je geführt wurden". Die Problematik der Quellenlage wurde bereits angeführt und wird im weiteren Verlauf der Arbeit auch noch genauer bearbeitet, doch eines muss von Beginn an klar sein, nämlich die Tatsache, dass es keine karthagischen Aufzeichnungen über den Ebrovertrag und den Krieg an sich gibt. Somit muss nicht geklärt werden ob, sondern inwieweit die römische Geschichtsschreibung subjektiv geprägt ist. Sicher ist auch, dass dieser Krieg nicht nur für Karthago zerstörerisch verlief, sondern auch Rom selbst zermürbte, was nicht nur die Schlacht bei Cannae zeigt. Genau aus diesem Grund spielt die Kriegsschuldfrage eine wichtige Rolle, denn heute wie damals sind Kriege und ihre Folgen etwas schreckliches, wofür niemand gerne die Rolle als Aggressor inneh
