Europa im Juli 1914, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Das Ziel Otto von Bismarcks als erstem Kanzler des Deutschen Reiches war es, das Erreichte gegenüber weitergehenden Bestrebungen Frankreichs, aber auch den während des Krieges neutral gebliebenen anderen Großmächten zu konsolidieren. Im Schwerpunkt wollte er durch seine Außenpolitik zeigen, dass das Reich als "saturiert" gelte und in seinem Hauptinteresse die Erhaltung der bisher erlangten Position läge. Er beabsichtigte mit Hilfe eines von ihm initiierten Systems von Bündnissen Frankreich zu isolieren und das bestehende Gleichgewicht zu erhalten. Somit änderte sich das Gesicht der Diplomatie in Europa, da es seit dem Wiener Kongress von 1815 mit Ausnahme der beteiligten fünf Großmächte (Pentarchie) keine festen, zumindest keine über einen Krieg hinausgehenden, Bündnisse gegeben hatte. Wie sahen diese Bündnisse aus und wie entwickelten sie sich nach der Entlassung Bismarcks ab 1890 weiter? Welche Großmacht, Frankreich, Österreich-Ungarn, Russland, Großbritannien oder das Deutsche Reich, band sich an wen und weshalb? Diese Fragen stellen sich bei der Untersuchung der einzelnen Großmächte in Bezug auf ihre Bündnispolitik, auf die nach einer Einführung in das Bündnissystem Bismarcks im Detail mit ihren jeweiligen Auswirkungen eingegangen wird. Die Ergebnisse dieses Teils der Arbeit sollen die Basis für die Beantwortung der Hauptfrage und Ausgangspunkt der Analyse sein, ob und inwieweit die abgeschlossenen Bündnisse sich auf die Diplomatie der Julikrise 1914 auswirkten oder ob sie durch ihre Ausrichtung die Julikrise und den Kriegsausbruch zwangsläufig als Folge hervorbrachten?
