Länder - Mittelalter, Frühe Neuzeit, Note: 1,0, Universität Trier (Fachbereich III, Mittelalterliche Geschichte), Veranstaltung: Staatsexamen, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Der Briefwechsel Hildebrand Veckinchusens wurde von Wilhelm Stieda im Stadt-archiv Reval "unter einer dicken Schicht Pfeffer" gefunden, abgeschrieben und 1921 beim Hirzel-Verlag in Leipzig ediert. Darin sind u. a. Themen angesprochen, die mit Hildebrand Veckinchusens beruflicher Tätigkeit, seiner finanziellen Krise und seinem Ruin als Kaufmann und Persönlichkeit in Zusammenhang stehen. Einer seiner Handelspartner und guter Freund, Tideman Brekelvelde, klagt in seinem Brief vom 10. Juli 1421: "Gode enbarmet, dat et mit ju so komen is". Tideman bezeichnet in dem gleichen Brief Hildebrand als einen "vorvluchtig man". Hildebrand Veckinchusen steht zu diesem Zeitpunkt kurz vor seiner Verhaftung im Brügger Stein, dem Schuldturm in Brügge. Aufgrund seiner prekären Überschuldung befindet er sich auf der Flucht vor seinen Gläubigern. Tideman Brekelvelde ist bevollmächtigt, sich um seine Angelegenheit in Lübeck zu kümmern. Es stellt sich die Frage, wie dieser angesehene, reiche Kaufmann in eine derartig prekäre Krise gerät, die seinen Ruin bedeutet. Wieso kann es zu dem ruinösen Desaster kommen? Welche persönlichen, beruflichen, ökonomischen und politischen Umstände tragen dazu bei? Wie äußern sich Hildebrand Veckinchusen, seine Familienmitglieder, Freunde und Geschäftspartner während seiner Zeit im Brügger Stein? Wie entwickeln sich seine Beziehungen und Netzwerke in dieser Zeit? Sind einzelne Krisenphasen nachvollziehbar, die sich verschärfen und den Ruin erklären? Diese Fragen werden Kern dieser wissenschaftlichen Untersuchung sein. Der Fokus soll dabei auf der Person Hildebrand Veckinchusens und seiner Familie liegen.
