Quand je me préparais à devenir prêtre et missionnaire il y a 52 ans - j'avais alors 23 ans et vivais à Ottawa - j'ai rédigé deux mémoires en vue de ma maîtrise en philosophie. Le premier mémoire portait sur le psychothérapeute américain Carl Rogers et le second sur le philosophe français Aimé Forest. Aujourd'hui, avec le recul que plus d'un demi-siècle me permet d'avoir, je suis très impressionné par le fait que la vision du monde sous-jacente à l'approche philosophique d'Aimé Forest et celle sous-jacente à la thérapie centrée sur la personne de Carl Rogers, non seulement demeurent pertinentes en 2018, mais aussi, à mon avis, d'une brûlante actualité.Je suis également très impressionné par le fait que ces deux visions du monde ont beaucoup en commun avec la vision indigène du monde, que beaucoup d'écologistes - comme Naomi Klein et David Suzuki par exemple - soutiennent que nous devons adopter pour faire face à la crise environnementale historique actuelle. Beaucoup en commun également avec la vision du monde que le théologien catholique renommé et récemment décédé, Gregory Baum, qui était l'un des oecuménistes experts pour les réformes du concile Vatican II, soutient que nous devons adopter pour combler le fossé entre personnes de différentes croyances religieuses. Beaucoup en commun, enfin, avec la vision du monde que Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, le protagoniste le plus renommé au monde de la non-violence, affirme que nous devrions adopter dans la lutte pour la justice sociale.Dans la première section je souligne brièvement pourquoi je considère que la vision du monde sous-jacente à la philosophie d'Aimé Forest a beaucoup en commun avec celle de la thérapie centrée sur la personne de Carl Rogers, celle de Gregory Baum, celle des indigènes, et celle de Gandhi; j'explique pourquoi je considère extrêmement important de continuer à défendre ces visions du monde en 2018; et je soutiens que ces visions du monde, auxquelles j'ai été exposées dans ma jeunesse, m'ont beaucoup aidé en tant qu'éducateur.Dans la deuxième section je reproduis le mémoire sur Carl Rogers que j'ai rédigé à l'automne 1965. Dans ce mémoire, je fais d'abord ressortir les aspects fondamentaux de l'approche centrée sur la personne de Rogers en psychothérapie. Ensuite j'analyse, longuement et en détail, le conflit intellectuel entre subjectivité et objectivité vécu par Rogers au cours de sa carrière. Finalement, je procède à une très brève critique philosophique et épistémologique de la solution qu'il met de l'avant pour solutionner ce conflit.Enfin, dans Épilogue 2018, j'approfondis et développes un peu plus mon évaluation critique de la solution apportée par Rogers au conflit - connaissance subjective vs connaissance objective - et présente quelques pistes de solution plus respectueuses, à mon avis, de la richesse et diversité de l'expérience humaine de connaissance.
