Dans les années cinquante, la naissance du petit Ernest va provoquer de nombreux remous dans le village des "Rambaudières" en Bas Poitou. En effet l'enfant présente un très léger handicap intellectuel qui va amener la population à le classer très rapidement dans la triste catégorie des "idiots de village" et autres bons à rien... Ernest en sera très affecté, sa scolarité deviendra un échec cuisant et cette petite société villageoise ne manquera pas de le mettre à l'index en permanence. Peu délicats les habitants de la bourgade ne chercheront pas à comprendre... Devenu adolescent, Ernest trouvera un emploi et deviendra un solide paysan, mais... il ne sait ni lire ni écrire et souffre d'être sans cesse la risée de tous! Un jour, et par un pur hasard la nouvelle institutrice des Rambaudières viendra lui proposer son aide et ainsi tenter de le faire sortir de l'ignorance. Ernest va reprendre confiance en lui... C'est une aventure nouvelle qui commence et bientôt peut-être... une autre vie !
About the Author: Originaire du Limousin l'auteur a déjà publié plusieurs romans du terroir tels que Le fils des quatre saisons - Fernand des chaumes - Amours et trahisons en haut limousin - L'idiot du village - La batteuse - Embarqué à 17 ans sur un dragueur de mines - Arsène le vieux laboureur. Christian Male fils d'une vieille famille paysanne, connaît bien l'histoire du haut limousin et du bas poitou voisin ainsi que toutes ces familles d'agriculteurs dures à l'ouvrage, au coeur débordant de générosité... Des gens qu'il aime et qui le lui rendent bien. Il les fréquente souvent, dialogue, raconte, exhume de très vieilles histoires qui formeront un peu plus tard le ciment de ses romans. En ces lieux où la nature demeure encore aujourd'hui relativement préservée, les conversations dans les chaumières se font encore en patois limousin, un patois que pratique l'auteur avec plaisir mais un joyau hélas en voie de disparition ...
