About the Book

Tesoros de la Hispanidad

"No subas tan alto, pensamiento loco,

Largely ignored in her lifetime, Rosalía de Castro (1837-1885) was later recognized as one of the best Spanish poets of all times. A master of late Romanticism, she is also a precursor, with Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, of Modernism in both Latin American and Spain, influencing writers such as Rubén Darío, Juan Ramón Jiménez, Antonio Machado, and Miguel de Unamuno.

Published in 1884, a year before the author's death, En las orillas del Sar includes ninety-eight poems on love, loneliness, the loss of nature, nationalism, faith, and death, among other topics. Rosalía de Castro's poetry is powerful, vibrant, and modern, and a must-read for anyone seeking to expand their knowledge of Hispanic culture.
