LATER SUFI POETRY From the 15th to the 20th century Translation & Introduction Paul Smith Considered the last great poet of the Classical Period (8th-15th c.) and the forerunner of what is called the 'modern period' or 'Later Sufi Poetry' was Jami. After him there were many 'great' Sufi poets writing in Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Turkish, Punjabi and other languages.
