Présentation: Le Crépuscule des Idoles ou Comment on philosophe avec un marteau (titre original: Götzen-Dämmerung oder wie man mit dem Hammer philosophiert; le sous-titre est parfois traduit par Comment philosopher à coup de marteau, mais cette traduction est incorrecte) est une oeuvre du philosophe Friedrich Nietzsche écrite et publiée en 1888 et conçue comme un résumé de sa philosophie. Le titre est une référence ironique au Crépuscule des dieux de Richard Wagner. Elle est composée d'un avant-propos, de dix chapitres et d'un extrait d'Ainsi parlait Zarathoustra ( Le marteau parle ).L'auteur: Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche est un philologue, philosophe et poète allemand né le 15 octobre 1844 à Röcken, en Prusse, et mort le 25 août 1900 à Weimar, en Allemagne.L'oeuvre de Nietzsche est essentiellement une critique de la culture occidentale moderne et de l'ensemble de ses valeurs morales (issues de la dévaluation chrétienne du monde), politiques (la démocratie, l'égalitarisme), philosophiques (le platonisme, mais surtout le socratisme, et toutes les formes de dualisme métaphysique) et religieuses (le christianisme et le bouddhisme). Cette critique procède d'un projet de dévaluer ces valeurs et d'en instituer de nouvelles dépassant le ressentiment et la volonté de néant qui ont dominé l'histoire de l'Europe sous l'influence du christianisme; ceci notamment par l'affirmation d'un Éternel Retour du même et par le dépassement de l'humanité et l'avènement du surhomme. L'exposé de ses idées prend dans l'ensemble une forme aphoristique ou poétique.Extrait: De tout temps les sages ont porté le même jugement sur la vie: elle ne vaut rien... Toujours et partout on a entendu sortir de leur bouche la même parole, - une parole pleine de doute, pleine de mélancolie, pleine de fatigue de la vie, pleine de résistance contre la vie. Socrate lui-même a dit en mourant: Vivre - c'est être longtemps malade: je dois un coq à Esculape libérateur. Socrate en avait assez. - Qu'est-ce que cela démontre ? Qu'est-ce que cela montre ? - Autrefois on aurait dit (- oh ! on l'a dit, et assez haut, et nos pessimistes en tête !): Il faut bien qu'il y ait là-dedans quelque chose de vrai ! Le consensus sapientium démontre la vérité. - Parlons-nous ainsi, aujourd'hui encore ? le pouvons-nous ? Il faut en tous les cas qu'il y ait ici quelque chose de malade, - voilà notre réponse: ces sages parmi les sages de tous les temps, il faudrait d'abord les voir de près ! Peut-être tant qu'ils sont, n'étaient-ils plus fermes sur leurs jambes, peut-être étaient-ils en retard, chancelants, décadents peut-être ? La sagesse paraissait-elle peut-être sur la terre comme un corbeau, qu'une petite odeur de charogne enthousiaste ?...
