About the Book

English summary: Composed shortly after his death, the first two Passions of Leger d'Autun offer a set of texts for the least documented decades of the Merovingian period. These works mark a new direction of Western hagiography by presenting the removal of an influential bishop as an authentic martyr. For his biographers, Leger was nevertheless a problematic figure and his fall is known from the testimony of his complaisant relatives and that of his local adversaries.
