Jean-Charles Pichon (1920 - 2006), romancier, poète, auteur dramatique, dialoguiste, philosophe, fut l'homme du paradoxe: une soixantaine de ses ouvrages ont été publiés, il a reçu des prix littéraires, été reconnu comme un pair par Hervé Bazin, Albert Camus, Lévi Strauss... Et il demeure inconnu du grand public. C'est sans doute que sa pensée dérange. Son oeuvre métaphysique, qui se situe dans la lignée de celle de Mircéa Eliade, est basée sur l'étude des mythes et des croyances qui ont accompagné l'humanité depuis des millénaires. Il en a étudié les formes, les rythmes et les figures - leur naissance, leur apogée et leur déclin. Ce faisant, il a dénoncé les impostures des églises et - pis encore en notre époque - celles des rationalistes scientistes. Se fondant sur un savoir encyclopédique, son raisonnement d'une rigueur implacable nous fait porter un regard lucide sur l'histoire de l'humanité et sur son avenir. Écrit de 1985 à 1988, avec une préface de 1977, Le Petit Métaphysicien illustré constitue un livre indispensable pour ceux qui veulent suivre cette route. Jean-Charles Pichon y développe des notions qu'il utilisera dans ses oeuvres postérieures (le PAT et le PAN, la Forme Vide, l'analemme, etc.). Il s'agit en réalité d'une sorte de "manuel du gay sçavoir", d'un "discours de la méthode" métaphysique, d'une "défense et illustration" des vocables précis qui permettent au mythologue de confondre les mythomanes. Sa machine y est décrite, basée sur les aspects de l'objet: vocable, nombre et figure. De nombreuses machines y sont également étudiées, notamment celles qui constituent Sindbad le marin ou l'Apocalypse, mais aussi celles écrites par Attar, Goethe, St Thomas d'Aquin, Joachim de Flore, St Jean de la Croix, Roussell, Kafka, Duchamp, Artaud ... Puisse ce guide vous aider dans votre propre cheminement. C'est pourquoi je ne conclus pas ce livre. Ferme le, ami. Dors et rêve un poème. Je t'ai donné peu de chose, somme toute: un nombre magique et quelques sommations, un analemme qui fut une croix et la redevient sans cesse, le plus concis des vocabulaires: 6 dieux, vivants ou morts, recréant les 12. Mais ce peu est sûr. Où que tu ailles, quoi que tu fasses, quelle que soit la sentence qui te menace, tu peux l'emporter avec toi. (p. 331).
