The phonics method is the old-fashioned way of learning the letter sounds and then "sounding out" each letter in a word until the word becomes understandable.
Eventually, this Learn the Animal Alphabet book was written to help people learn to read through learning the sounds of the English alphabet letters . Learning to read by the phonics method gives students a handle on how to break the letters into sounds. Then the sounds can be put together to make a word, then the words are put into a sentence, and then the sentences are put into paragraphs. It is a process that builds upon itself.
All of the letters of the English alphabet and their unique sounds are listed in the book including a fun fact for each animal. On the left side of the page are facts about the animals and on the right side of the page is an illustration of the animal. The animals listed in the book include: anteater, bear, crocodile, deer, egret, frog, goose, hedgehog, ibis, jaguar, kiwi bird, lion, mouse, nightingale, octopus, pelican, quail, rooster, sheep, turkey, unicorn fish, vicuña, walrus, (xolo)itzcuinte dog, yak, and zebra. Each of the first letter in the animal's name represents the consonant or the vowel sounds of the word. The text includes fun facts about each animal.
Each fun fact is introduced by a little ant commenting through a word bubble an interested fact about that animal. Visual images imprint in the minds of prereaders easily. Each picture will be interesting to the students learning about them. All the animal facts will help the prereader remember the animal and the letter sound associated with it.
