About the Author: Dr. Miller is a full Professor at the College of Dentistry and College of Medicine, University of Kentucky. He is an academician, clinician-scientist, teacher and mentor. His strengths are in areas of student advising, decision-making, coaching, editing and leadership. He has written more than 200 scientific articles and abstracts, authored 9 books and 7 book chapters/monographs, and currently serves as journal Editor to Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology. Two of his textbooks, Color Atlas of Common Oral Diseases, and Dental Management of the Medically Compromised Patient, have been translated into 5 foreign languages and serve as the national standard for this topic matter in the field of dentistry. This current book, Doing Your Best in Class, provides him the platform to reveal secrets and extend advice to young adults with regard to improving academic performance, achievement and future success. Dr. Charles R. Carlson, Ph.D., ABPP, obtained his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Vanderbilt University in 1983 and completed a clinical residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 1984. From 1984-1988 he served on the faculty of the Psychology Department at Wheaton College. Since 1988, he has been a member of the Departments of Psychology and Oral Health Science at the University of Kentucky where he is the Robert H. and Anna B. Culton Professor of Psychology and Dentistry. He served as chair of the Psychology Department from 2004-2010. He is currently the Director of Behavioral Medicine and Research at the Orofacial Pain Center in the University's College of Dentistry. Dr Carlson has been awarded the diplomate in clinical health psychology from the American Board of Professional Psychology and the U.S. Navy's Civism Award.
