About the Book

A leave of absence is normally taken when one wants to temporarily vacate their current post, but still wants their vacated post, plus benefits and privileges, to be reserved for them because they are not so sure about where they are going. So, just in case they do not like what they find in the alternate world they long to be, they need the reassurance that they will still be welcome back to their present space. Yet, still, they are uncomfortable enough about where they are to yearn to be in that place else, to crave to be that someone else, just to experience the alternate world in an alternate self - just taking a transient leave, a leave of absence. Thus, this new work explores that alternate universe, travelling back and forth between the now and the then; the what is and the what could be - weighing options between the reality and the what-could-be-made-real. Just to see if the comfortable possible can replace the uninhabitable now. Or, at least, if the two can peacefully live together. Across themes of love, sex, peace, politics and philosophy, Leave of Absence poses serious, thought-provoking questions about human existence.
