"Lecumberri, el lado blanco del Palacio Negro" Roberto tiene algo que compartir. Vivió una injusticia, una equivocación de la ley. A los veinte años entró a Lecumberri, donde estuvo quince, de 1955 a 1971. Lo acusaron del asesinato de una mujer a la que cuatro jóvenes con antecedentes penales atacaron. Como puede verse al estudiar el expediente, Roberto no estuvo en el lugar de los hechos. Su juicio duró escasamente tres meses y fue sentenciado a veintitrés años. Un mes después, en otro juzgado, otra persona, Alberto Hernández Rodríguez, recibió una sentencia de treintaiún años por el mismo delito y se dejó abierta la averiguación para cuando se capturara a Roberto a quien se consideró prófugo. Su capacidad de adaptación, su carácter, la formación que le dio su abuela y su oficio de panadero fueron elementos que le permitieron hacer cambios para mejorar íntegramente la cárcel. En el Palacio Negro los presos tenían responsabilidades laborales y Roberto escaló cargos hasta llegar al más alto. Disfrutó de privilegios que supo ganarse. Se cultivó, pintó, se casó y tuvo cuatro hijos. Conoció a peligrosos asesinos a quienes controlaba con carácter. También aprendió mucho de presos de gran cultura y educación, como Humberto Mariles, a quien admiró y con quien convivió. Algunos personajes importantes de nuestra historia, artistas, periodistas, políticos, estuvieron presos con él y otros visitaron el penal durante su estancia y se interesaron en él por sus aptitudes de liderazgo. En la actualidad, Roberto disfruta con salud y libertad de una vida productiva al lado de su segunda esposa, la autora. Con su segundo matrimonio entró a formar parte de una familia de artistas muy queridos por el pueblo mexicano. Él y ella tuvieron el valor de curar sus heridas, aplicar la experiencia y crecer para cuidar y hacer crecer su amor. Roberto quiere compartir su fórmula para reincorporarse a la sociedad: EDUCACIÓN, TRABAJO y DEPORTE. Quiere abundar en las ventajas de legislar para que sea obligatorio que el preso trabaje desde que entre a la cárcel. Tiene una propuesta para que las cárceles sean auto financiables.
