Eine Einführung in die alte chinesische Philosophie mit aktuellen Bezügen Schon vor 4000 Jahren waren die Menschen in China gezwungen, sich durch ein System von Flussregulierungen vor Hochwasserkatastrophen zu schützen. Dabei sammelten sie Erfahrungen, die nachhaltigen Einfluss auf die Weltsicht der folgenden Generationen hatten und anderthalb Jahrtausende später die klassische chinesische Philosophie prägten. Diese entwickelte zu ihrer Blütezeit eine Vielzahl unterschiedlicher Ansätze (Konfuzianismus, Daoismus, Mohismus, Legalismus, Hedonismus, Sophismus), die als die Hundert Schulen in die Geschichte eingingen. Dieses Buch versucht, das Denken jener Zeit nachzuvollziehen und dessen oft verblüffende Einsichten für die Gegenwart fruchtbar zu machen. In den alten Schriften finden sich zahlreiche Anregungen für aktuelle Debatten, vor allem zu Themen wie Nachhaltigkeit und Ökologie. Auch die Frage, inwieweit Kulturtechniken anstelle staatlicher Gewalt eine stabile Ordnung gewährleisten können, ist für unsere Gegenwart von Interesse. Ebenso der Aspekt der Selbstkultivierung: Wie gelingt es, die eigene Lebensweise auf eine lustvolle Art den jeweiligen Erfordernissen der Zeitläufte anzupassen und inwieweit sind die gesellschaftliche Struktur und die eigene Triebstruktur kompatibel? So geht es in diesem Buch auch um unser Verhältnis zur Natur, zu unseren Mitmenschen und zu uns selbst. Auf der Suche nach Lösungen für die Probleme der Gegenwart ist es sinnvoll, gelegentlich die Perspektive zu wechseln. In Europa haben sich wirkungsvolle Erklärungs-muster herausgebildet, mit denen wir der Welt begegnen. Wir verdanken ihnen vieles. Aber diese Erklärungen haben ihre blinden Flecken, die man von innen kaum wahrnimmt. Darum ist es sinnvoll, den Dunstkreis der eigenen Kultur von Zeit zu Zeit zu verlassen.
